Old slabs can take a beautiful coating if you prep them right. Here is our checklist.
Start with a moisture test
Always run a calcium chloride or RH probe test before quoting. Old slabs without a vapor barrier are the number one cause of delamination.
Grind, do not acid etch
Diamond grinding with a HEPA vacuum gives you the profile (CSP 2–3) that epoxy needs.
Repair first
Fill control joints with polyurea and patch spalls with epoxy mortar before priming.
Prime
Use a penetrating primer or a moisture vapor barrier primer depending on your test results.
